Whats happened to my grass carp?

Yesterday my goldfish died, it had had a swim bladder disorder for weeks, I did a 80% water change then introduced an albino grass carp to the tank, and immediately it sank to the bottom lied on it’s right side. It seems to be able to swing its body ( but it hasn’t) and it is breathing. What could have possibly struck it down so soon?
The water is about 20′C, I’ve moved it to a small 1g tank with about 5 E. densa, bright gravel and 3 trumpet snails.
The water hasn’t been de-chlorinated.
It was left for 15 mins in the bag in the water then 15 mins with some water mixed then put in
It died, I will completely clean the tank out and start again at a later date.

    Are you using water conditioner?

Also, a 1g is much too small for any carp for any length of time.

Test for nitrIte, nitrAte and ammonia. If you don’t have the tests yourself, go to a fish store and have them test it for you. The readings SHOULD be: nitrIte and ammonia = 0, nitrAte >=20 (equal to or less than). If any of those numbers are higher than the ones I’ve given, that’s your problem.

Also, how did you cycle the tank? How long has it been cycled? Did you change filter media recently? What water parameters was the grass carp in previously? How did you acclimate it? How did you know your goldfish died of a swim bladder disorder (could it have been something contagious that the catfish caught when you put him in)?

    Good luck.

My first question is is your tank cycled and if so what is the water quality? high ammonia or nitrites will kill a fish very quickly.

Also, when you floated your new carp did you float, add your tank water to the bag, float another 15 minutes add more water float add more water float (about 45 min total)? Doing this allows the fish to adjust to your PH level in the tank.

Also, have you used a dechlor in the water? A fish that will sink quickly is uaually a sign of poor water quality.

Test your water. If the ammonia or nitrites are high, do a water change.

Did you test your water? Maybe the ammonia or nitrites killed it. If you test it and it comes out as nothing’s there, then maybe he is suffering from temperature shock. Just like other people said, did you float the bag in the water for at least 15-20 minutes?

Also, your temperature is a little low. Increase it to about 22-24 degrees Celsius.
